When It Counts

I try to refrain from writing blogs about sports for the simple reason that a lot of people couldn’t care less about it, but stick with me on this one and pretend its more of an illustration than the whole topic.  I watched the Giants win the Super Bowl last weekend and then started to hear people whine about them not being “the best team, just the hottest at that time.”  The argument was the same I heard last year with the Packers and what gets thrown around all March during the college basketball tournament.  My question is this; Is it more important to be the better team during the year, or the hottest team when it counts?

Don’t be a Loser

Over the course of my life I’ve heard multiple quotes that make me think.  The best comments are the ones that are said in complete innocence.  When someone says something that hits home, but they never knew or intended it to affect your life like it does.  One of those quotes came from my brother a few years back.  We were actually talking about sports franchises and how certain teams have a history of winning that has lasted through time.  Yet others (sometimes in the exact same city and market) have always been losers.  My brother’s comment, which rings true in our personal lives as well, was this…

God’s Eternal Bragging Rights

I’ve been spoiled as a sports fan recently.  As you can find out in my “about” section, I’m a huge fan of Wisconsin sports, as well as the Duke Blue Devils.  So Duke wins the Championship in 2010, the Packers win the Super Bowl in 2011, the Badgers win the Big Ten in football last year and are in the championship game this year, the Brewers win the NL Central this year… I haven’t had too many disappointments in the sports world really!  Or I may just have moved from Minnesota so the comparison makes it look amazing! That is until last night when my Blue Devils got absolutely blasted by Ohio State…

But something was different about this one.  Back in the day I would have been devastated that my team couldn’t even stay close to the Buckeyes.  But even before tip off of last nights game my perspective on the world had already changed. Last night was actually one of the greatest nights of recent memory!  That’s because my son (age 2) should have been in bed by halftime, but instead we got to snuggle and watch basketball.  The important part wasn’t the outcome of a game it was that I got to spend some great time wit him. (And this isn’t college football so an early loss or two doesn’t doom you to play in some irrelevant post-season competition 6 weeks after the season is over) Continue reading “God’s Eternal Bragging Rights”
