I'm a Christ-follower, husband, father, and pastor. I strive to live the life God created me for on a daily basis, and He gave me the most amazing woman in the world to help me along the way! I've been blessed with 4 amazing kids. I have been in ministry since my graduation from North Central University in 2005, and am currently serving at River Valley Church as the Apple Valley Campus Pastor in Apple Valley, MN. I love sports, mostly Basketball and Golf, but will play just about anything. My allegiances lie with all things Wisconsin (Brewers, Bucks, Packers, Badgers).

Who do they see?

Last night I was back where I have spent what seems like half of my life… a church!  This time it was actually for a funeral service (see “My Rock” post for some back ground).  As the pastor officiating the service was giving his sermon he used a verse in the bible and continued on with the passage but something stuck out to me that I couldn’t move away from so quickly.

In John chapter 14 Jesus is talking to his disciples about his upcoming exit from this world.  They can’t understand what is happening and start to question how this whole “Father in Heaven” thing, to which Jesus answers, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.  If you really know me, you will know my Father as well… (v.6-7)”  Philip still didn’t understand and asked Jesus to show them who the Father is.  Once again, Jesus replied, “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? My Rock

Every now and then we experience moments where we realize how fragile life really is.  In the past month I’ve experienced two of them.  First being when our Worship Pastor’s 4 year old son had a stroke about a month ago.  That night I held my son a little bit longer than usual.  God has done amazing things through that situation and you can actually hear him tell the story by checking out his sermon last week by clicking here.  Then last night one of my friends from high school and her husband, who still live in the same small town I do, lost their 13 month old daughter unexpectedly.  It’s a harsh reminder that even when we have a relationship with Christ we aren’t hidden from the storms of life, we just have hope to get us through them. God’s Eternal Bragging Rights

I’ve been spoiled as a sports fan recently.  As you can find out in my “about” section, I’m a huge fan of Wisconsin sports, as well as the Duke Blue Devils.  So Duke wins the Championship in 2010, the Packers win the Super Bowl in 2011, the Badgers win the Big Ten in football last year and are in the championship game this year, the Brewers win the NL Central this year… I haven’t had too many disappointments in the sports world really!  Or I may just have moved from Minnesota so the comparison makes it look amazing! That is until last night when my Blue Devils got absolutely blasted by Ohio State…

But something was different about this one.  Back in the day I would have been devastated that my team couldn’t even stay close to the Buckeyes.  But even before tip off of last nights game my perspective on the world had already changed. Last night was actually one of the greatest nights of recent memory!  That’s because my son (age 2) should have been in bed by halftime, but instead we got to snuggle and watch basketball.  The important part wasn’t the outcome of a game it was that I got to spend some great time wit him. Inspiration for Excellence

I’m always inspired by church planters whose ministries explode. I think, “what awesome favor they must have with God! What powerful vision they must get every time they seek direction!” And on a more “physical” level, “What personal drive they must have to press on after such a lofty goal!” I look at people from my generation like Craig Groeschel and Steven Furtick and admire what they are accomplishing for the kingdom of God. Yet, although you may never write a book, proclaim the gospel of Jesus in front of thousands, or even deliver a lesson to your small group, we are all called to do our part without ceasing for the kingdom of God.

Today in my devotions, I started the book of 1 Thessalonians and was reminded of what our motivation for life as a Christian should be. It states, “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. God sometimes uses the unlikely

I have to admit, I wasn’t thrilled with how today was playing out. It started great. I was out the door early, in Appleton early enough to swing through Manderfields Bakery with plenty of time to make it to the office, but then things started to veer slightly from the plan…
I got a phone call and had to run a quick errand, then another urgent issue cropped up sending me out once again. Now I’m late for staff meeting, my double shot red eye (coffee with 2 espresso shots) is barely warm still, and my pecan pudding cake is being abandoned! Staff meeting was supposed to be short, followed by a quick production meeting to nail down details for the sermon series in January and I’d have time to hammer out the to-do list before 1pm… Not today! All the meetings ran long and before I knew it I was dropping off my stuff in my office, grabbing my bag from the bakery and jumping into a car to get to my 1pm appointment while still on the phone trying to tie up lose ends that should have happened in the time I thought I would have between meetings! The Excitement of the Routine

So, tonight was like any other night in the Liebe house.  As we progressed towards bedtime Amber began to feed Grayson, and Brody and I got a bowl of Kix and headed to “mom and dad’s room.”  This is, by far, my favorite part of every day!  I feed him bites of cereal between tickling, snuggling, stories of the day, and laying on our backs while patiently waiting for the smoke detector to blink (he noticed it one night and ever since has thought it was the coolest thing in our house).

While laying on the bed with him snuggled under my arm and pointing at the ceiling saying, “Watch!” I realized two things about my nightly routine… 1) This NEVER gets old.  And 2) Although it seems to be the same motions every night, it’s never the same!

In the middle of this whole event I had a God moment.  I’m sure this is exactly how God feels about us.  Some times we allow the thought into our head that our “routine” with God gets boring, or we have to do more to impress Him, when in all reality all He is looking for is time to connect!  Throughout the Gospels we see over and over again that part of Jesus’ routine was pulling away from everything else to pray and connect with God.  If we call ourselves Christians and claim to be Christ-followers, shouldn’t we be doing the same?  Let’s be honest, even as we begin to do this in our daily routine, I promise it will never get old and it’ll become your favorite part of your day!  Just like Brody does with me, God will always keep it interesting!
