In the beginning of the book of Acts you read the story of the Day of Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit fell with the noise “like the blowing of a violent wind” and “tongues of fire separated and came to rest on each of them.” This caused them to speak in other tongues so loud that the people on the street heard it! I’m willing to go out on a limb here and say that their passion wasn’t from their past, even though they had been with Jesus (remember, when He died on the cross they all went back to fishing). I don’t think that they were even caught up in what was happening in that moment. I personally think that they were as exuberant as they were because Jesus had promised that when the Holy Spirit fell they would be empowered to do amazing things for the Kingdom of God! The fire wasn’t for the moment; it was for what was about to happen! They got “Fired Up” to actually go do something!
As an athlete and coach we used to use the term “I can see the fire in their eyes.” If you have ever had a competitive bone in your body you don’t need any explanation. The second my teams would walk into the gym I knew what the chances of us winning were by looking at the players. When there was focus and determination, even before we headed to the locker room to get ready, I knew the fire was present. Its time we, as Christians, get the “Fire.”
The fire doesn’t come from the house you grew up in. It doesn’t come from the gender that you are. It doesn’t come from your cultural background, etc.… Actually the Fire doesn’t come from anything in your past, or even present. The Fire comes from getting a glimpse of the possibilities of what “could happen,” and I pray we loose sleep at night because our minds are spinning with anticipation of the future!
What could happen if you passionately pursued the plan God has for your life!
