Throughout this week I have been weighing some different things that I should write this blog about.  There is a ton of things happening in our world right now and taking the forefront in our nation are the elections and corresponding campaign ads wherever you turn, and Hurricane Sandy blasting the east coast.  Almost anytime of the year you could watch the news and get depressed but during this time you cant even get relief from commercial breaks!  One word that keeps ringing through it all is Broken.

Homes on the east coast are broken. Mass transit systems are broken. Both candidates agree our government is broken (at best it’s just financially broke).  And in the wake of it all are people whose lives seem broken.  Now I don’t think that God sends natural disasters to lower the hammer and punish us all, but I do think he allows some things to happen so that we can be in the best possible place to be open to Him and receive Him.  That place, unfortunately for us, just happens to be when we are broken.

Ironically, while we work so hard to keep it all to together, we serve a God who sent his son to this earth with one mission in mind… to be Broken for us.  As a word picture to His disciples of what needed to happen he broke bread (Luke 22:19).  He reveled himself after he rose from the dead to that same group of people with the same act (Luke 24:30,35).  All to fulfill his calling and mission in this world.

All for us.

4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,

yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:4-5

You may be in a spot where you feel broken right now.  Maybe God has allowed you to be there so you can focus on Him, the one who was also broken.  But he was broken by choice so he could put your pieces back together.
